The Work We Support

These initiatives reflect the types of grassroots education and child wellbeing programs Bridge the Gap Project is designed to support.

Pakistan (2025): Expanding What Works

Expanding early learning across Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In 2025, the partnership with the Institute of Social and Policy Sciences (ISAPS) expanded across two regions of Pakistan—Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP)—bringing early learning into 170 government schools and reaching diverse communities across urban and rural contexts.

The impact:

  • 170 schools reached across Punjab and KP

  • Significant improvement in 19 out of 20 developmental goals

  • 22% increase in learning levels in Punjab

  • 28% increase in learning levels in KP

  • Statistically significant gains in English literacy, numeracy, and STEM

Students showed meaningful progress in foundational skills, while classrooms became more structured and engaging learning environments.

This work demonstrates what’s possible when early education programs receive the support they need to grow and scale.

Pakistan (2024): Proving the Model

Strengthening early learning through research and classroom implementation.

In 2024, Trehaus partnered with the Institute of Social and Policy Sciences (ISAPS) to conduct a research pilot across 50 government schools in Punjab, Pakistan.

Using the Little Lab platform, the pilot focused on improving foundational literacy and numeracy outcomes in early-grade classrooms.

The impact:

  • 50 grade-one classrooms reached

  • 50 teachers trained to deliver structured early learning

  • 2,000+ students engaged in foundational learning assessments

  • 1,600 students supported through classroom instruction using the Teaching Toolbox

Within weeks, students demonstrated measurable gains in literacy, numeracy, and early STEAM skills.

The pilot also identified 195 students who were significantly ahead of grade level, highlighting the importance of differentiated learning within early education classrooms.

Educator capacity improved alongside student outcomes, with reduced student-teacher ratios and 84% of teachers reporting positive feedback on the tools and approach.

This pilot serves as a proof of concept for how structured tools, teacher training, and targeted support can strengthen early learning environments and lays the foundation for scaling this work to reach as many children as possible.

Democratic Republic of Congo (2026): Pilot in Development

Strengthening early learning in an internally displaced community.

Bridge the Gap Project is exploring a partnership with a local nonprofit serving children and families in an internally displaced persons (IDP) camp in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where access to safe, consistent early education remains extremely limited.

For many educators involved, this initiative would represent their first access to formal early childhood training, teaching resources, and ongoing instructional support.

Phase 1 focuses on:

  • Training early childhood educators

  • Supporting the development of an early years program within the school community

This initiative reflects Bridge the Gap Project’s commitment to supporting community-led organizations in highly vulnerable settings.

Sumba, Indonesia (2027): Pilot in Development

Supporting foundational learning in underserved primary schools.

Bridge the Gap Project is exploring a partnership to support foundational literacy and numeracy outcomes in primary schools across Sumba Barat Daya and Sumba Timur, Indonesia.

Many schools in these communities face significant infrastructure and resource challenges, while students often perform several years below grade level and educators have limited access to ongoing professional development and instructional support.

Phase 1 will focus on:

  • Supporting training and implementation assistance for 30–40 primary school teachers across one to two schools

  • Strengthening classroom instruction and teaching practices in lower primary grades

  • Improving foundational literacy and numeracy outcomes for students in Primary 1–4

  • Providing coaching, professional development, and contextualized support for educators

  • Exploring technology-enabled learning solutions designed for low-resource environments

This initiative reflects Bridge the Gap Project's commitment to supporting locally led efforts that strengthen educator capacity and expand access to quality learning opportunities for children in underserved communities.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2027): Pilot in Exploration

Supporting early childhood education and caregiver capacity in underserved urban communities.

Bridge the Gap Project is exploring a partnership to strengthen early childhood education opportunities for children and families in underserved communities across Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Many caregivers, educators, and community organizations serving young children face barriers to accessing quality training, resources, and ongoing support, limiting opportunities to provide safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate early learning experiences.

Phase 1 will focus on:

  • Supporting training opportunities for early childhood educators and caregivers

  • Strengthening foundational knowledge of play-based and child-centered learning approaches

  • Supporting the development of safe, engaging, and nurturing early learning environments

  • Building pathways for caregivers and women to pursue meaningful opportunities in early childhood education

  • Exploring community-based preschool and childcare models that can be adapted and scaled within underserved urban communities

This initiative reflects Bridge the Gap Project's commitment to supporting locally led efforts that strengthen caregiver capacity, expand access to quality early childhood education, and create stronger foundations for children's learning and wellbeing.

Bridge the Gap Project supports grassroots organizations, schools, and community partners across rural communities, refugee settings, government school systems, and crisis-affected regions.

Through its partnership network, Bridge the Gap Project is able to identify urgent needs directly from the field and support organizations working closest to children and families.

Current and exploratory partnerships span Pakistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Indonesia, and Malaysia with additional initiatives under development.

Children in refugee camps, crisis shelters, underserved communities, and remote villages cannot afford to wait.Together, we can support the local organizations working every day to provide children with safety, nourishment, care, and access to early learning.
